touch control leak
I have gone through the touch control on my 52. What type of sealant should I use on the gaskets to keep them from leaking? Most of the silicone sealants say oil resistant. Since the gaskets are on the bottom and in the fluid all the time I would think I would need one that is oil proof.

Re: touch control leak
I think the consensus is to put the gasket on dry from what I have gathered in other posts on that subject.
Fyi, I have not had one apart yet! Yet!

Re: touch control leak
The lower cover gasket needs to go on dry. I rebuilt my first TC block with guidance at a Cubfesr a few years ago and it hasn't leaked a drop since (knock on wood)

Re: touch control leak
I think we have covered this a few times…..If and a big “IF” you need gasket sealant don’t uses Silicone sealant even if it says petroleum sale. The reason I say this is you will need a hammer and chisel to remove the part next time.
I know we have a boat load of mechanics and I will not question their judgement. I personally will use Permatex Aviation gasket maker or sealant and the reason why 1. It is safe around all petroleum products (gas, hydraulic, grease) 2. You will be able to safely remove the part down the road without the use of hammers or chisels. 3. Easily removed with brake clearness or solvent.
I totally agree that the bottom gasket should be installed dry provided that both parting surfaces are smooth and pit free.
Anyway my 2 cents.

Re: touch control leak
Rebuild instructions specifically say install gaskets DRY.
I bought a Cub with a non-finctioning TC Block. When I rebuilt it, I saw that PO had used RTV (or something similar) during reassembly. The insides of the main filter were coated with tiny bits of RTV, and the orifice screen was plugged with the same tiny bits! It was a mess! Had to spray with solvent, blow out, spray, etc, several times to unblock passages.
If I get on my computer, I'll post some photos, but trust me, RTV has no place near an assembly with all these ports and parts!
Found the post I made about it...check out page 9!
