Rewiring time

Postby PFord » Sat Aug 20, 2022 3:55 pm

Time to slowly start rewiring the Cub. Starting with the battery cable.

I've attached some photos showing the old vs the new. The old cable had corroded badly and was extremely stiff. It also appears to not have been of very good quality.

New cable is marine grade, extremely fine strands, and importantly, every single strand is tinned. That should all but prevent corrosion. Each connection is very good grade copper though I would have preferred tinned copper. Might have to look into that if these corrode more than I'd like. And each connection is properly heat shrinked so no water should enter.

I'll be doing a lot more wiring soon, but needed to get going on this since the old one was giving problems.

Good grounds are imperative for 6volt Cubs. (positive ground). I like bare metal to connections and the use a little dielectric grease (clear) to prevent corrosion….

Also only use 100% copper wires….no aluminum (aluminum corrodes)

Good advice. I should have noted this is a 12v negative ground cub and this is the lead from the positive terminal to the solenoid switch. My negative cable is of the braided type and seems to be working well.
