I have a manlift I'm using to put a new roof on my barn. Am I crazy to think the Cub might be able to move the lift from place to place on fairly level ground? ( braking shouldn't be an issue due to the layout and movements needed)
The lift runs over 4000 lbs and tows easily. I've been using a Ford Ranger to move it around the yard...but would be nice if the Cub could manage it.
Am I going to kill myself to even attempt! Love any feedback you may wish to provide.
I can't seem to upload pic of the lift as my camera files appear to large...it's a tow behind with stowing outriggers.

So far, Paul and Ringo have arrived. John and George were supposed to follow ages ago, but apparently have gone awol. Long story. - Circle of Safety: Y
Re: Yard movements with Cub?
Brakes and burning up your clutch will be your issues. I had to move a non-running Chevy 2500 long bed, extended cab pickup 20 feet or so a while back. I don’t know what it weighs, but it’s got to be quite a lot more than your lift. Probably 6-7000 lbs. It moved it just fine, but my problem was I could not go *slow* enough, even slipping the clutch a lot more than I would recommend. Even doing that, and the fact that the little distance I had to move was slightly uphill, I still had too much inertia going when I got to where I wanted to stop. I don’t think the truck contacted the rear wheels when I stopped, but I remember the moment of terror when the tractor stopped, but the truck was still rolling uphill at me.
It’ll do it, but would *not* recommend. If you try it, be *very* careful. IMHO, I think your better off sticking with the Ranger. The tractor weighs what? 1000-1200 lbs?

Re: Yard movements with Cub?
I have always been surprised what it can pull. keep the throttle mid-range and give it a try. I have found if you are careful they will spin long before your break anything.
I once used a snatch block and a cable to move very heavy logs that were in a pond that I was not able to pull out with a cub or 130. I connected the block to the log and used one on the tractor as an anchor and the other to move. I keep going back and forth between 130 and the cub until I got the log where I wanted it. The cub did fine.
You could use a fixed anchor like a tree or buy another cub!

When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

Re: Yard movements with Cub?
I think it will most likely do just fine. My biggest concern, with the Cub, is excessive weight on the draw bar. Any idea how much tongue weight you would have?

Re: Yard movements with Cub?
I don't know why your Cub wouldn't handle it. Cubs have been used to pull more weight than your man lift. As long as the ground is fairly level, it shouldn't be a problem. There's only one way to find out...

Re: Yard movements with Cub?
I regularly pull a 5.5'X10' utility trailer loaded 3' high with firewood around with my Cubs. They don't have any issue. Just be mindful of the tongue weight as others have said. Don't want to break your drawbar off your final drives.

I used to own a 20 foot implement trailer that weighed 4050 pounds. I regularly moved it around with a fasthitch Lo-Boy. I would just back to it, raise the hitch and go.
