Ah… the eternal questions: How fast does it go ? How much horsepower under the hood ?
The answers are: Not fast enough ! Not near enough !
“Hot-rodding” is part of the American culture; from riding lawnmowers to airplanes. Every county fair around here has the perennial ‘tractor pulls’; local dirt track fills the stands every Saturday night; every few years, hometown airport does an airshow.
Many years ago, my daughter had just turned ‘teenager’; introduced her to ‘driving’ on my GATOR. She practiced some straight ahead, turning activity and then, her first question was… “How fast can it go, Dad ?”, with a twinkle in her eye.
I said, “Honey, let’s head to the field and find out !”
A couple short runs then, she let the ponies out of the barn !
To this day, even right now, I recall her peals of laughter and the joy of speed on her face
She will only drive a real ‘stick-shift’ car and rejoices every time a rotary in the highway presents itself !
Thirty years on: no accidents; no tickets; one warning. She understands that speed & horsepower demand respect.
