Next project 47....
When I was a kid my dad would talk about the Farmall Cub he used to run for a local farmer in the 50’s. When the farmer passed away about 15 years ago his daughter gave my dad the Cub, my dad dragged it to my grandpas house where he and my grandpa would tinker with it. 3-1/2 years ago I lost my dad and my grandpa in a 3 week span. Until yesterday the 47 has sat in the shop that belonged to my grandpa (now my sisters and I own the place) I decided that I would drag it up to my house and start working on it. I have gone through several Cubs and I’m really looking forward to going through this one!
Current Cubs:
1947 "Ed" came off of a farm my dad worked at in the 50's
1948 "Gene" owned for years by my grandfather
1950 "Roy" purchased new by a friend's grandfather

Sounds like you've been down the restoration road before. That's good, you kind of know what you're getting into. They can be fun and frustrating (at times).
We'll sit here on the sidelines and wait for your updates. Looking forward to this thread. Keep us posted and remember, we love pictures!!
And as always, if you have any questions, just ask.

Re: Next project 47....
Worked on the 47 a bit last night, the battery box was toast, the heads of two of the bolts were so far gone that I had to weld a 1/2” nut to what was left in order to get them out, luckily they came right out after that. I pulled the fan shroud and straightened it out as well, it was really bent up, if I remember correctly when my dad got this tractor the hood was smashed, maybe the damage happened then (he must have scrapped the original hood/tank I can’t find it anywhere but I did find 2 others that he must have bought for a replacement)
I put the mag back in after touching up the points, boy is it ever hot!
Just getting it sorted while I wait for my parts orders to come in.

Not that you are having a steering issue, but your photos reminded me to say, don't forget to ensure your steering housing FILL PLUG is clean & venting. Remove it and it should have a small passage up from the bottom, then a 90° turn and out one of the flats. A small wire will get the dirt & paint out, then spray with carb or brake cleaner. (Watch what direction the holes are pointed!
)
Also, don't forget to oil your fan hub!

Re: Next project 47....
More work on the 47 today, broken bolt in the steering arm. Made up a centering tool out of a Grade 5 bolt to drill into it, extracted it and made a new lock bolt out of a Grade 8 machine bolt.
