Front and Rear main seals governer
Hi, I am about to press in the front and rear main seals into my 47' farmall. Also will be putting in the seal for the governor. Just wondering if there is any type of sealant that should go between the parts that I am presssing the seals into and the seals themselves? Or do I just press them in? And I will clean the surface good. Thank-you

Chances are QUITE good that unless you get the reworked retainer/seal that Tim offers, any replacement seal you put in your old rear seal retainer will not be tight enough and will leak, no matter what sealant you use.

Re: Front and Rear main seals governer
Hi,
The new oil seals I have seen have a red or other colored coating on the OD, they say it is a sealer, it seals the OD when you put the seal in the hole.
You can also apply other sealer to the OD if you want.
I use this sealer below, they sell it at auto parts stores. Stir it before using, it can settle in the bottom of the can sitting.
