governor seal

Does the bevel on seal face towards the front of the engine?

Assuming you are talking about the governor seal referenced in Stanton's post, most of these seals have a spring hidden under the rubber seal as shown in the below photo. This side shown in the photo faces the front of the tractor or towards the governor.
