Putting the old girl to work
I thought I better get my plowing done before the rains come here in SW Ohio..

Re: Putting the old girl to work
Looks like the moisture was about right, and it was plowing pretty good. That is a pretty big garden, by the way.
I plowed our garden last fall with Dad's cub, and disk plow. It was a little bit wet, and had been 3 years since it had been plowed.
Waiting for the rains to stop, now so we can plant some onions and other early stuff.

Enjoyed your video- I'd give my eye teeth for some flat, tillable ground like yours!

Re: Putting the old girl to work
Great video! Thanks for sharing it--I really enjoyed it.
Also noticed the great "help" you had along the way, especially your training coach. I saw where your dog was barking (mostly) when you were actually plowing and not so much when traveling back to the other end of the plot. Ahhh, just like a coach to bear down on you when your in the midst of working out. Seriously, looks like you got it done ahead of the rain and in good shape.
Not knowing whether I'd have the strength during chemo to actually garden or not, I went ahead an err'd on the side of optimism and plowed up a spot last Fall; about a third of what you did. The winter weather played its part to break the Missouri clay dirt clots down so when I used the two-gang disc this Spring, it looked like I'd roto-tilled it. Got my potatoes and onions in on St. Patrick's Day. First onion is just coming up.
Wish you success with your garden this year, Bill.

Re: Putting the old girl to work
The garden is 30 by 80. That is about 1/3 of years past. I will probably have a plow day in the other 2/3 at the Bash for the women. They enjoyed that last year.

Corn, beans and tomatoes plus whatever Rosanne decides later. I just talked to a lady with a lot of aged fertilizer that is the consistency of top soil. I'm going to get a load to disk in.

Composted manure is great. But, watch out for the weed seeds.

Don, it is horse manure. I should have said that.

Re: Putting the old girl to work
Fertilizer costs this spring , composted /well aged manure would be quite welcome here. Even horse manure. Though I'd take it two years old given the choice. And IF it wasn't seedy year one it could add heat , and make some stuff "shoot" if too lively. Not always a good thing.
I'm no tomato fan but found one out of a greenhouse early spring with the only stock around was horses for manure (and those folks used it) and it was about like tasting fried water.
She's turning soil well for ya Barnyard!
