Shipping Parts Question
I sold a pan seat on the Vine. Just the seat part. I boxed it up with a box slightly bigger than the size of the seat and maybe 1’ high. Took it to the Post Office and they wanted $60 to ship it due to the size of the box.
I asked the lady at the counter what size it needed to be to get the $25, delivery in 5 days price but she couldn’t tell me. She just said as small as possible. I can probably pare down this box and get it half the height it is now.
My question is to people who do more shipping than I do. Does Federal Express or some other shipper have a padded heavy duty envelope that would accommodate and protect a Cub seat (pan only).
I saw Cub pan seats on eBay offering shipping under $22. So there must be somebody out there who can ship for that price if an Ebay seller is charging $22 on a item he is selling for $35.
Thanks

Re: Shipping Parts Question
Businesses usually get a much better rate than the individual rate.

Re: Shipping Parts Question
I would cut the box down to make it the minimum size it needs to be.

I should have known but I wasn’t aware that the size of the box added that much to the price. Makes sense I guess because of the space it takes up. I was trying to have enough padding around it to keep it looking pretty. But, the buyer tells me he’s not concerned about a little paint rubbing off.

what are the seat dimensions?
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Shipping Parts Question
21-1/2" x 19" x 6" approx. Too big for a large flat rate box.
I wonder if you can just wrap it with bubblewrap and slap a shipping label on it.

Re: Shipping Parts Question
I just went to the USPS web page and a package 21-1/2" x 19" x 6" shipped using USPS Retail Ground to Nebraska from Cincinnati would cost $21.25. That is based on 12 pounds. I don't know what a seat weighs.

Re: Shipping Parts Question
Shipping is expensive, these days. UPS and FEDEX even more so than USPS. USPS is about to get even more expensive. They just placed an order for 50,000 new delivery trucks. About half of those are all electric vehicles. Can you imagine what that contract will be worth? The bottom line is that you have two choices. Pay the going shipping rate or go get it yourself.

Re: Shipping Parts Question
I have it repackaged and it measures 22”X19”X8”. That’s the best I can do. Guessing OH to KS is about $24 for the cheapest price based on the price that came up yesterday before they measured the box.

I remember when the small flat rate Priority box was less than five bucks. Now it’s almost ten.

Re: Shipping Parts Question
I had a small first class package arrive today, shipped from Michigan, on the 13th. Might be getting expensive, but not fast!

Re: Shipping Parts Question
some times the PO is 2x what Fed ex or UPS , check around. Also smallest box possible.lyle11 wrote:I sold a pan seat on the Vine. Just the seat part. I saw Cub pan seats on eBay offering shipping under $22. So there must be somebody out there who can ship for that price if an Ebay seller is charging $22 on a item he is selling for $35.
Thanks

The price I see on USPS website is $31.00 for a box that size. Of course weight natters as well.
