Replacing Zenith Carb

Postby Greenthumbfarms » Thu Feb 17, 2022 12:07 pm

About 2 years ago I out one of the Economy Zenith carburetors on my 75 longstripe to replace the original. I was never impressed with its chintzy quality.
I purchased a new one from TM, and received it today. I have the float set and am ready to mount it. The old one had a fairly thick gasket going to the manifold, and the replacement from Steiner had a few gaskets stacked on it.
The TM replacement has one gasket that is .05" thick, is this thick enough or was there a reason to have a stack of a few or a real thick gasket instead?

The throttle butterfly may rub/bind on the manifold with a single gasket. That's the reason for using several.

I will check that and see if another gasket should be added in during installation.
For the idle speed and idle air mixture screws, is there a preliminary adjustment to aim for?

If the manifold on your 75 is original, it should be OK. I'd go with the one that TM supplied.

From the manual:
Idle speed- With the throttle in the closed position, turn the throttle stop screw until it just touches the stop, then turn it IN 1 1/2 more turns.
Idle air- Turn in the needle until it lightly seats, then back out 1 1/4 turns.
Main jet- back out 2 turns from a light seat.
These are preliminary and may need some additional adjustment.

Don's right, my post related to have a mismatch between the carb and manifold.

As far as I know the tractor has the original manifold. I will make sure I do not feel rubbing when actuating the butterfly before I run the tractor
