Compression In 3, Low In 4th

Postby rickguns » Sat Jan 08, 2022 10:53 am

My son has a 56 Cub, it had been running rough and the usual simple things did not help. I have not seen it but he pulled the head off and he said the weak cylinder's valve opening was rough and pitted. He thinks the engine is a gonner because of it. What would cause this to happen?
He had refinished the tractor, straight metal, great clearcoat paint job......sharp looking tractor. 12 Volt with a new professional wiring harness, new battery box, lights etc etc.
Can the valve seat (lack of better term) be reground and polished? Is the engine worthless now? He's talking about just parting the tractor out....I hate to see him do that.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Valve seats can be resurfaced, you can buy a tool for it, or even replaced, by a machine shop.
