broken gear tooth in transmission
i was looking for that slapping noise in second gear and have a broke tooth on the gear. Is it possible this is the cause of the noise and if so, how hard will it be to replace it?

Re: broken gear tooth in transmission
Sounds like you have found a source to the noise.
Hopefully others will chime in on the difficulty level.

spilt tractor in rear, pull the imput shaft out and swap gear if it is the one on top that's broke, just so you know gears are better changed as a pair for noise issues

Re: broken gear tooth in transmission
Hi,
You didn't say if the broken tooth is on the gear on the top shaft, or the bottom shaft.
The Cub and LoBoy service manual has info about splitting the Cub, and repairing the transmission.
If you don't want to do bigger jobs, like splitting a Cub, you might need a shop to repair it.
Below is the Cub and LoBoy service manual, if you don't have it. It has lots of info.
There is a table of contents on page 1 of most sections, that makes it easier to use online.
Sections 4 and 6 have info that would probably help you with the repair.

IH changed the numbers of teeth on the 2nd gears, upper and lower gears, in the mid 1950's, if you buy another gear, be sure it has the right number of teeth.
