Mystery Part

Postby xraycajun » Sun Oct 24, 2021 12:36 pm

I disassembled my Touch Control unit today to find this unexpected item. It appeared to run out of the filter chamber with some fluid... though I'm not sure. I can't find this on a parts breakdown or in the rebuild posts on this forum. The unit is from a 1952 cub. It has been in the family since new and has never been opened up before. Block #354383R3

It looks like it could be a tip broken off of part #15 or #18 in the parts manual. Depending on size. #15 is the safety valve piston. #18 is the pressure regulator valve piston assembly.

Thank you Frank... I was able to confirm that it broke off of the safety valve piston. So what are my options? I can tell by the wear in both broken ends that the nib broke off a very long time ago. The hydraulics were working fine until the tractor was taken out of service in 2003. When I put it back in service in 2019 the hydraulics had lost a lot of power.... I suspected to to flat O-rings. I reassembled the block, but have not put it back on the tractor just yet.

You could use the number on the block to get a replacement part from a used block or try to find a NOS part if you can. You will need the part number from the parts book and do a search on the internet or eBay. You could also get a complete replacement block and rebuild it with new orings and gaskets.

Have you tried a call to your local case IH dealer?

I wouldn't have thought that a modern CASE dealer would even carry a 70 y/o part... I'll try that...

If you have the part number they can order it.

Also try your local New Holland dealership. It's the same company as CaseIH.
I have an excuse. CRS.

As a last resort, Messick's (Case/IH dealer) shows it at $82.00.

I’d place an ad here. Check with JoeB. Pretty good chance he may have one

Check with KyCub. He may have a later model touch control block with the heavier rockshaft and third arm for fasthitch spring if you ever want a fasthitch. He is very reasonable on parts.
