York Rake Color

Postby Barnyard » Sun Aug 15, 2021 3:05 pm

First, I want to verify if this is a York rake. Secondly, what color should it be? For some reason I thought two tone.

Yes it is a york rake and it is all one color. My rake is about the same color as yours. It was an orange color when new.An id plate is located on the top rear and you should see 4 holes if the tag is missing. Will post a picture of tag later.

Okay, now that we know it should be orange, and not green and yellow, , I need to know what orange it should be. I would like to use Rustoleum on it. Possibly https://spraypaint.rustoleum.com/en/pro ... s%20Orange
or
https://spraypaint.rustoleum.com/produc ... t%20Orange

Or I could go out of the box and make it IH red and Ford blue.

Hi,

You could reach out to York Modern and ask them what the paint code is for the orange. They are still in business in Unadilla New York.

I've had terrible results with Rust Oleum. I only use Krylon Fusion spray paint. It works really good. Not sure about what is the best affordable non aresol paint. But Rust Oleum never has given me good results.

Well, it needs to be painted tomorrow so it can be reassmbled and mounted by this week end. I will figure out which orange to use.

Thanks everyone.

The easy to find rattle cans will be Allis orange and Kubota orange. Of course, both companies used 2 different shades at different times. Makes it hard to talk about comparisons. You nearly have to have samples of each side by side to see any difference. I used some version of Allis orange on my Pittsburgh field cultivator.

The usual comments and opinions about the various suppliers of spray cans apply.

Thanks Jim, I think Kubota orange me be my choice if in stock locally. I did call York just now and they said Rustolem industrial orange is the closest match, but Kubota comes close.

I have yet to see one of them for sale near by yet.

Looks like it still has most of the paint still on it!

I do not think either would look good green or yellow, but if it is what you like.

I would reserve that special green and yellow paint for that which was originally green and yellow!

I don't think it matters...chartreuse will work just as well.
