Matching Cub Rim Color

Postby epinswla » Sun Aug 01, 2021 8:41 am

I've just recieved two front rims from Hamilton Bobs to replace the rusted out ones on my recently purchased 1977 cub. I'll soon be prepping the tractor for new paint and would like to match the rim color of these new front rims to the back ones when painted. Would any of you happen to know what paint color would be a close match to this silver used on the Hamton Bob rims?

Also, I'll be providing the serial number/casting data to the tracking sheet soon.

Thank you.
I probably should have mentioned I will not be matching factory colors when repainted. I prefer red on the tractor.
I'll try the hammered silver on front and rear rims as has been discussed previously in these forums. Was hoping to match the color provided on the replacement front rims but it'll be easier to just go ahead and paint these new ones now before mounting the tires.

Not quite sure what you envision for paint color other than red for main tractor. The red tractors usually had red front wheels and red rear centers with the silver rear rims. It’s yours, you can paint it how you like. Good Luck with your prep and paint.

As of today my intentions will be red tractor, red rear center and silver fronts and rear rims. It'll be a working tractor so paint is more for protection than anything else.
I messed around with a hammered charcoal color today that I thought would look good as well for the front and rear rims along with the grill and breather cap on the red main tractor.
We'll see what happens.

Are your front rims really rusted out, or just rusty?

Looks like the left side is holding air! :)

It is your tractor, so paint it how you like.

Be sure to post some pics when your done!

There are sections of bead seat missing on both....just got lucky the left side stayed inflated!
The pony tank is temporary so I can move it around with the tank/hood removed.
She aint pretty yet but runs and operates perfectly. The motor rebuild now has about 2 hrs runtime. I have all the parts and pieces so it'll give me and my son a cooler weather project in the days ahead.

I could not say tractor when I was 2 years old so I called it Err Err.

I loved this tractor then and I still love it now.
