Final Drive Hub Seal Replacement
Just wondering if anyone on here could offer a few suggestions as how best to re-stake (or re-attach) the final drive hub oil seal. This is the oil seal that fits into the “retainer cup” (for lack of a better term) on the shaft of the wheel hub. The new seals are not as thick as the old ones, therefore there is a ton of space from the seal to the mating surface of the cub to the final drive housing. I cannot seem to get a good angle on the inside on which to properly stake it in place. Any tips or suggestions for alternative means or is staking the only way to go? I hate to come across as stupid. Thanks in advance.

if the new seal presses in tight would not be worried about staking it, new modern seals are different factory leather type

Re: Final Drive Hub Seal Replacement
Hi,
If you can't get the seal to tighten well in the retainer, I would buy the newer style retainer that is 1 piece with the seal.
I wouldn't want to do the job over again if the seal leaked.
Below is the listing for a new retainer with seal at TM Tractor, you can look at the pics. It's not saying it is the 1 piece retainer and seal, you could ask them before buying one, if you want.

Re: Final Drive Hub Seal Replacement
I just tackled that job recently, and need to do the other side next. Being thrifty (which is sometimes pronounced "foolish"), I purchased the separate oil seal from TM Tractor rather than the seal and retainer assembly, which was considerably more costly.
After drilling and grinding through the wall of the old seal to remove the staking, I began to see why some would prefer to buy the assembly, but my new oil seal did fit tightly into the old retainer. The new seal is indeed less bulky than the original, but I did not see that as an issue, and tight as it fit, I saw no need to secure it in place.
If yours doesn't fit up properly, you may wish to purchase a replacement from TM Tractor.
Good luck in your project!

Thank you all very much for the help! I think I will definitely buy the preassembled one to have. I do greatly appreciate the help!
