Re: Fast Hitch Mott flail mower
It also does not put a lot of load on the cub compared to a finish ( 3 fixed blade ) mower. And as others have said it will cut high grass but it will leave a bit of a mess with the clippings. It is a bit safer, but not perfect, on sidehill cutting
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

I have the mulching "attachment" . It was purchased to try to make the Mott cleaner. When a Mott is run it creates a allergic dust cloud that comes out the whole 4 feet on the front of the mower. The Cub's fan then picks it up and blows it right into your face. The mulching plates mount on the front extending it out roughly a foot and when used as intended you switch the belt so that the blades spin in the opposite the direction of travel. We ran it either direction trying to get the dust down, neither worked. Dad eventually gave up and bought a loboy with a woods. Both are good mowers each having their good and bad points. The woods is a much better finish mower for nice lawns, the mott is good for rougher pasture cutting IMHO. I have alot of years seat time on both, even have a 6' 3 point Mott for the Ford.

Re: Fast Hitch Mott flail mower
I have a video somewhere of me going through hay 5'-6' tall, raised it up AND shredded it. I wish I could find it, you hear me coming and bam! Then you see a clear cut path. They do cut tall stuff, with brand spanking new blades and a balanced cutter! Rear mounted flail mower that time.
Btw, who snagged the mower you had an eye on???

Beats me, I guess no one on here!
Was not me....... ☹️
Even if it needed a bit of work, it was well worth the $50.
I would like to have one for a few tight spots, I would not use it much, couple times a year here and there!

It’s not as good in tight spots as you might think. About like a bush hog on a 3 point tractor.

Those 2 videos show the problem with rear mounted mowers of any kind- you get a kink in your neck from always having to look back!

Re: Fast Hitch Mott flail mower
From my perspective, there’s rarely any need to watch a rear mounted mower. If you handle the tractor properly, the mower will follow you as it is supposed to do. I’ve spent many hours mowing with a three-point bush hog and typically only look back when I’m backing the tractor. The Fast Hitch Mott, being closer to the tractor and not extending beyond the rear wheels, there is even less reason. JMHO.

Re: Fast Hitch Mott flail mower
Well I only have experience with a 6 ft 3 point mott which is wider than the tractor on both sides vs a 4 ft mott belly mount Cub cutting my parents 10 acre amusement park. Fences, rides, trees, railroad tracks etc. Dad would get upset if you ran things over and trying hard as I might could not get fired from that job. Did not like trimming so I'd get as close to everything I could. Today's modern equipment would have been a godsend

Gotta fit better than a 6' wide tractor with a 6' wide brush hog! No?

Looking straight ahead all the time is no fun!
Gotta watch the cool action of whats going on behind once in the while too!
