Zenith Carb ?

Postby xrcr » Thu Apr 29, 2021 8:15 am

Zenith 13794-d any idea what this little brass plug is for? Reason I ask is it looks like it's solid but it falls into the passage below. Got it to hold for the pic at least. next question is how would one get it out?
Thanks for any input

Is there a tiny orifice in the center of it? I'm thinking it's an idle air bleed. I'm not sure how to get it out but I think it should be a tight fit in the hole. If you damage it, you'll need to find a new one. Morgan at McDonald carb and ignition might be able to help you.

Hi,
You didn't say if the carburetor is for a Cub.

Below are pages from the Cub parts manual, showing the Zenith carb. :)

If the manifold gasket covers it, it's probably a plug that was inserted after machining something internally. As Glen asked, what is the tractor model and maybe a picture of the other side.

if you look in side you will see 2 tiny holes there is a hole bored down to the idle mixture screw, this is probably just a plug for the hole they bored,

It is on a 50 cub and I know it is not what it came with. There is a plug on the bowl side as well so I guess it is where they bored for the lower hole in the throat. Talked with Morgan a bit and will try to get it removed and plugged back up. What I don't get is if you look up 13794 Zeniths online those plugs are not shown. Maybe they are not actually 13794's in the pics. If I can get it out, I just need to figure out how to plug thsat hole. trying real hard to make this carb work but it seems to be pushing me to buy aftermarket. Thanks for all the input.

why do you need to remove it, you can use carb clean to spray on the jet side to make sure the tiny holes are not plugged up, dun piles of these and never had to remove it

JB Weld is not gas soluble. If you can get the plug back to the top, a smear of JB will probably hold it in place. If the Cub was running okay, you may not need to do anything.

It is loose tst. was thinking super glue but the JB idea is probably better. Thanks Bob. I have been messing with this carb for awhile it came loose and dropped when I was cleaning after a long soak with a tooth brush. There is no hole in ii, it is just a plug. I can get it to the top with air in the idle screw hole and am hoping I can fashion a piece of safety wire up to hold in place while the jb dries. Tractor was/is only running on choke so still chasing that. Thanks for all the advice.

Hi,
I don't see in the pic that the carburetor looks the same as a Zenith carb for a Cub, but maybe it's just the pic making it look different.

Below is a page from the Cub service manual showing the float height for the Zenith carburetor in the lower right pic. It's important that the float height be set right.

If the Cub doesn't run without the choke out some, it could be the main jet is plugged some and needs cleaning. It is number 20 in the parts pic in my other post above.
It is covered by a plug, or cover, number 18 in the pic. :)

Or you have an intake leak some where. Been there done that. My slow brain took me a year to fine it.
Good luck.

If that plug is domed, just use a small flat end punch to tap it back in. Tapping on the top of the dome will spread it in the hole. "If it is domed." Just a thought.
