Cub Gardening Odd Crops

Postby SamsFarm » Sun Apr 18, 2021 11:21 pm

Anyone using their Cub (or any other tractor) to grow odd crops?

Like growing your own;
Examples:
1) Sugar beets to make your own sugar.
2) Tobacco, if you smoke your own.
3) Sorgum for syrup
3) Peanuts for your own snacking ir peanut butter.

Lets hear it! :)

I have grown my own organic soft red winter wheat, grind it using a grain mill powered by my Cub and made pancakes, sugar cookies and corn muffins / bread with it!

I been wanting to try my hand at using my wheat for cakes and crackers!

I also like growing a organic open pollenated field corn (wapsie valley) which I do feed to my chickens, but also grind some with the Cub for corn muffins / bread!

We grow organic Roy Calaise flint corn at our farm and grind it for cornmeal. Sell lots of baked goods made with it and our own polenta as well. This year I’ll be running the Cub through the corn to cultivate until we intercrop with sugar pumpkins and some honeynut. Furrowing and hilling our potatoes with the cub this year, too. Man I’d sure love to set up a grinder off the Cub and grind our cornmeal that way!

Well I don't know if mine qualifies as odd crops or not. I have a market garden where I grow and sell several things from Beans, Brassicas, Coles, Cucurbits, Peas, Potatoes, Peppers and Tomatoes. My beds are made with the Cub along with all my cultivating and side dressing. I even spray with it all using a fast hitch Hardee sprayer rig that I replumbed to use a FIMCO 12V pump. I'm still working out the bugs on a Holland trans planter unit I found with water barrel to do my collards and cabbage in the fall.

A bit nippy out today, so I just made a batch of SamsFarm Cub Cornbread!

Added some sauteed onions, some of last years jalapeno peppers (frozen), and some cheddar cheese this time! :)

Tomatoes , peppers , jalapeño's , cucumbers, sweet peas , green beans , yellow beans , beets , sweet corn and potatoes for starters . Soil prepped and maintained 100% with a cub . These little tractors are a huge help.

Here is my CS Bell grain mill, powered by my fast hitch Cub, grinding up some non gmo roasted soybeans to go in chicken feed!
