Power unit
I just picked up this engine and because it's painted a different color and has unique features added to it a different carburetor oil return lines going to the block where the touch control pump should be a longer dipstick tube a skinny flywheel what was this engine used for The previous owner has passed away so I have no info on this engine where he got it from The tractor that came along with this engine and original block is in pieces can I transplant this engine into the cub?

Check and see what the prefix is with the serial number on the engine.

Re: Power unit
By the engine serial number and prefix, looks like you have a tractor engine from around 1969!

Re: Power unit
Hi,
Raymond Durban's database says that a Cub engine with that serial number would have been made in 1969.
The FCUBM means the engine would have originally have been in an International Cub tractor, as far as I know, but Jim B. would know.
It's possible that someone used an engine from a Cub, and made it into the power unit engine, but hard to say without being there.
IH used the power unit engines on hay balers in the early 1950's.
The engine block part number, on the lower left side of your engine, should end in R8.
251341R8.
There should be a date code above the part number.
Below is info from TM Tractor for reading the code.
Clean the code well, and use a good light to see it.
http://www.tmtractor.com/id/id_004.htm
Someone has probably replaced the original IH carburetor with a Zenith.
IH didn't use the Zenith carb until mid 1975.
The longer dipstick tube was used on Cubs beginning in about 1956.
Below are pics of a baler with a Cub engine.

Re: Power unit
This engine has the larger manifold for the zenith carburetor. Maybe off of a later model. The exhaust elbow turning forward is like a numbered series Cub. Cub engines have been used in boats and insulation blowers and to power carnival rides.

Re: Power unit
I also have a power unit from a Baler engine and a combine engine in my collection. I've been searching the internet and found an old post from the forum about Palmer Marine engines. Could this be I have a Palmer p60?

The color is similar but not much on it to indicate it’s a Palmer. They would have a water cooled manifold, a front driven distributor and if I recall correctly they turn backwards from a Cub so it would need a reverse ground camshaft with a different front cover to accommodate the distributor.

Re: Power unit
I like the carnival ride engine idea That's what I'll go with everything looks to be interchangeable then from the old block I just got to get it done and then it will go into the tractor .

The palmer.
http://www.oldmarineengine.com/discus/m ... 0/1708.jpg
I believe that International would have stamped the engine with some sort of prefix to designate it for palmer marine.
My bet is that as a FCUBM engine, it was original to a 1969 cub tractor.
Hard to say what it has done in its lifetime though!

Re: Power unit
I'm thinking the engine was from a 1969 154 Lo-Boy. The water outlet elbow 352071-R1 was used on the 154 until sometime in 1971.

Did the 154 international tractors have a different flywheel on The engine?
