Fast Hitch on a Cub without hydraulics?

Postby abesaleh2011 » Sun Mar 21, 2021 10:07 am

Hi all! I picked up a Cub without hydraulics but it does have manual lift capability to lift the cultivators that came with it. My question is if I was to keep my eyes out for a fast hitch assembly, would it work with the manual lifting system to pick up implements?

my 48 has the hand lift and did come with fh on it, however lifting it with imp. on it was a bear and not something most people want! --- You can set the lift spring to max length but still a bear to operate. ----- I took mine off and in fact ended up using the tractor for parts since it dont have hyd. on it.

it will work but you will probably not be strong enough to pick it up with an implement on it, will have to be modified to hook up the spring rods also

Thanks for the responses! I guess I’ll have to find implements that work with the manual lift instead of a fh.

So far, Paul and Ringo have arrived. John and George were supposed to follow ages ago, but apparently have gone awol. Long story.

Yes.
Or retrofit hydraulics and proceed with the fast hitch plan. Post a want ad in the vine (classified) section of the forum or contact JP tractor salvage.

That would be my suggestion also. It’s not hard to do. You will like the tractor so much more.

JP Tractor sells the hydraulic set ups for a reasonable price and ships. I have purchased these from them and so have some of my neighbors. I put the thought aside about ordering from them but they raved about the price and shipping so I did as well.

I would do that and look for fast hitch stuff. Or just get hydraulics...

I have the fast hitch on my 52 , My uncle added it in the 70's , depending what you are planning to use it for the original implements work just as well as the fast hitch and are usually cheaper, I am not using my Cub right now as when I was still raising pumpkins I kind of outgrew it as I inherited my Dad's Allis C and could plow more ground in the limited time I had to get the ground worked up and get the seeds in , its buried in the barn all apart and I keep starting on it and having to get off it to tend to more pressing issues around the place and at work. I probably used the disc more than anything except for maybe the carry all platform, I could get in a slightly wet field and disc it lightly to dry it out so I could use the bigger disc 2 days sooner, because of how light it was. The best thing about plowing with a Cub is it will teach you how to set and use a plow properly and how to read the soil, with only 9 horses up front it will let you know in a hurry what it likes since that plow turns into an anchor if it's not set right.
