If you use tape look for gas/ oil rated tape. Is it not the white ptfe tape. It is usually yellow.

It is in Home depot and lowes or a plumbing supply place.

Good advice above. I've also had success with Permatex #2: https://www.permatex.com/products/gasketing/gasket-sealants/permatex-form-a-gasket-no-2-sealant-2/

By the way, welcome to the Forum. We encourage you to place a post over in the Introduce Yourself section, tell us something about yourself and give us a chance to welcome you properly.

The best I have found/used is E-Z turn. Do a google search the product works very well.

Note: you don’t use Teflon tape on petroleum or hydraulic connections because the tape will dissolve from the solvents.
Teflon tape works on water and oxygen connections.

White and yellow ptfe are the same except the yellow has twice the density. The gas rating is for natural gas/propane and not gasoline. Neither white nor yellow are soluble in gasoline. There are also green, pink, gray, and copper colored tapes for different applications.

I don't use teflon tape on gasoline fittings because it tends to shred into small strands that can plug up small passages. Once it is in a small passage, nothing will dissolve it. So the only removal is by physical means. If you do use it, be VERY careful not to have any on the outer end of the threads. I use teflon paste, avoiding the shredding potential.
