Rear work light jewel bulb
I recently purchased and replaced the jewel bulb insert for my rear work light since when I got the tractor the bulb was burned out... i had the light on today while plowing snow and it has burned out already. I have a 6v positive ground system. I checked the voltage at the terminal in the light assembly and it is at about 6v with or without the tractor running. Any thoughts? Is it just a bad bulb or something else? I did notice that the red reflector on the bulb cover is a little melted on the inside... The old one was like that as well.

Melted? Guessing it’s plastic and id imagine the originals were glass but that’s probably pretty difficult to find in any kind of usable condition.

Re: Rear work light jewel bulb
Probably just bad luck on the bulb. I believe it should be a number 51, which is pretty low output. You may have something higher than that installed.
Check to be sure the bulb is not in physical contact with the plastic jewel. If it is, try bending the bracket a little to get some separation. Even a very small air gap will make a big different in how much heat transfers.

Thanks all. I replaced the bulb with a #51 bulb and it seems to work without issue. I will continue to monitor it and see if it burns out again.
