Idle hands...!!!

Postby Dale Finch » Thu Jan 21, 2021 9:33 am

Oh dear! While I had time waiting for front wheel parts, I was roaming through Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace... :? :coffee:

There, hidden in an ad along with a Ford, Massey Ferguson, and 3 small lawn mowers, was a Cub. My brain locked onto the grill (my favorite 11-bar style) and I zoomed in as close as I could. There was only one photo, and it was not very good, but the cub had front & rear cultivators AND a fast hitch. The ad said new carb, battery, & tires.

Well, of course I texted asking a few questions, including price...answer was $800! The next day, I was on the road with my (enabling!) younger sister, and I fell in love with it...it just gave off good vibes. She started right up, and was loaded in minutes! The seller was 80, with health issues, and just needed to reduce his stuff. Super nice guy.

The only obvious issues are the sediment bowl was seeping, and the carb was dripping when shut off. He admitted the carb float probably needed tweaking. Those 2 things I'm pretty sure I can take care of quickly...especially if those awaited parts don't arrive today!
This is my SIXTH!! :big smile:

Oh no you didn’t !
I probably would have had to grab that one too.
The new parts account for 2/3 of what you paid.
With all that extra room on the trailer I’ll bet you had eyes out for another possible cub on the ride home. ;)

Actually, after picking up the FREE mower 1 1/2 hour from home, and then the tractor 30min further away, I was too tired to go buy a Cub front end for a possible future front rebuild on one of my Cubs.

I DO remember going for country drives, in the distant past, when I could simply enjoy the scenery. Now I risk running off the road as I risk whiplash looking in barns, sheds thickets!!!

Oh no! I used to say "Stop me before I become my mother!!”
My new mantra SHOULD be "Stop me before I become Barnyard!!!"

Yep, Bill! The fast hitch looks complete, including depth lever and spring assist.
I've never done ANY gardening, but I have a friend whose tractor is down, so I may offer to go play at her garden with this one!

Dale, take a look at this CL ad in the Washington, NC area - it might be the parts you need for your other Cub. Here's the link: https://eastnc.craigslist.org/grd/d/was ... 38730.html

I have no idea if the $123 price is legit, but you never know...

$123 generally means the seller has not set a price. This usually happens when the seller has several items for sale and will price them individually. It looks like this selling is parting it out as opposed to selling it whole. I doubt you will buy it all for the price posted.

Jim, I did see your post, and I agree with Barnyard...I actually have asked him some prices for a few things...nothing vital, but batt box top (for newest Cub), transmission shifter (for the cub in the garage - has a poor repair job, but works fine), and a 3rd thing I can't remember. As I said, nothing vital. We'll see if he replies. Can't spend much right now...funds have been drained! :D

I wouldn’t mind grabbing the bolster off that. One of my ‘52‘s has a crack.

The last stop that I postponed yesterday, was to pick up a bolster assembly... I still plan to do so...maybe in a couple days. If I don't use it for any of mine, and you eventually end up on a road trip down this way, we can discuss it!
