Sediment Bowl questions
I cleaned and red coated the gas tank, the new sediment bowl only screws in about 3 threads maybe due to the red coat? Before I tap and clean out the threads I wondered if the bowl should bottom out on the tank or if the threads have a stop instead of going all the way through the bottom . If so maybe I shouldn't tap them out. Also should I use teflon tape on the threads? What is the proper way to install the bowl to keep from leaking? Thanks for the help. Don't want to mess this up...

Re: Sediment Bowl questions
I would chase the thread with a tape. You do not want that red coat in the treads. I hate paint in threads.
It could be a problem if you ever have to replace the bowl in the future.
The bowl does not "seat" into position by screwing all of the way in. I do it by hand and go till i can not turn it any more with two hands making sure I stop with the outlet perpendicular to the tractor on the carb side.
I use tape for gasoline and petroleum applications. Usually in yellow rolls. you can get it at Home depot or on online.

Lightly chase the threads with a pipe tap, but stop before you remove any metal. You're just looking to get the coating material out of the threads.

I just looked at it again and I think maybe it is rust in the threads, I had put a 3/8 pipe plug in before the red coat and it stopped from clogging the threads. I think the chase with a tap will do it and a little tape also.

Re: Sediment Bowl questions
Just a tip if you don't have a tap and die set. I used a brass coupling with the same size threads as the sediment bowl and cut 4 slots vertical to the threads with a dremel tool. By using oil and tightening and then backing off a few times it chased and cleaned the threads allowing the bowl to be tightened. An old farmer friend did this years ago and it did work .
