Oil sump screen help

Postby Jdsharp » Sun Sep 06, 2020 12:04 pm

Hey all,
New here and have found a ton of great (and much needed!)info before tearing into my 51 Cub.
After dropping the oil pan I found the sump screen is in pretty bad shape and set off searching for a new one with no luck.
I have found some used one’s but figured it would be worth asking if anyone has refurbished theirs or has some advice on doing so before buying a used one?

Post a couple photos of the screen.

Usually the screen just needs a good clean up and a little straightening.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Hi,
JP Tractor Salvage, at the bottom of the page probably has a used screen assembly, if yours is not useable.
Below are pics from TM Tractor of what it should look like.

If your screen has goop inside it, a pressure washer might clean it out.

Below is the Cub and LoBoy service manual, it has lots of info. I would read the engine section, since you have the engine apart. :)

Eugene,
I’ve since removed the rest of the screen but it had spot missing from side to side and was fairly brittle. I did clean it up thinking I would buy some new mesh and attach it to the old to cover the hole but it was to brittle.
Thanks

All thanks for the input.i found some #20 mesh, maybe with some patients I can lift the lip and put a new piece in if the patients don’t fair so well I may default to buying a used one.

Here’s my repair. I wasn’t able to peel up the lip so I went with forming it around the outside and a couple hose clamps.
