You Cub in original configuration is 6 volt, positive ground in the battery box. No need for modification unless you fear the correct police, by grounding to the 'frame'.

So swap the cables back to positive ground and many people prefer to move the ground to the transmission. Just be sure to clean the cable ends and the contact point so it has no paint. A clean, good metal to metal connection is required.
Once you swap the cables, the generator will need to be polarized. Reference the manual (in the quick links upper left corner) or the how to section of the forum for instructions.

If it's set up with neg ground it won't charge properly. I'd just swap the ground at this point. Others will say you need to "repolarize" the generator, but l made the mistake of setting mine up neg ground many years ago (and worked it that way for a couple years) until l educated myself. All l did was swap it back and had no ill effect. The positive effect was it started charging and l no longer had to crank start it.
