I broke the tilting clamp on my sickle mower.

I’m trying to take the whole cutter bar off and I can’t for the life of me get these pins out.

I’ve got them soaking in Kroil currently. I’ve beaten on one to the point that the end of the pin is getting pretty boogered up. Anyone got any tricks or tips before I get out the angle grinder and cut the suckers? Also, will the shoe hinge slide off to allow me to replace the tilting clamp? Anybody have experience with this?

Those pins can be difficult. Cut off the beaten end with a mini grinder then try heat. U don’t want to break the hinge. The hinge threads on the coupling bar. That’s how you adjust the register of the knife. I’m currently rebuilding mine and have the hinge and drive tube at a machine shop having new bushings and pins made. Love these mowers. Going to have it just like new for another 60 plus years of service. Webb cutting components have many new parts for the cutter bar at reasonable prices. Download the manual and parts book from the PDF manuals to help you along. Good luck. TST, a forum member, makes the decals and the two different styles of belt guards.

I’ve been trying that with a small propane torch with no success so far. Maybe I need something hotter.

You definitely need something hotter than that.

real torch heat the metal around the pin and use a BFH to drive them out, some of those can be real monsters

Success. I borrowed a bigger torch. Still wasn’t easy but it worked. Here’s the rod I used as an extension to hammer on.

It was not mushroomed out when I started.

I even managed to remove the replacement part from the parts mower I had laying around. Other than smacking my hand with the BFH a few times, I’m having a pretty good day.
