Re: Generator
Hi,
A 1951 Cub should have the charging system with a generator, and a voltage regulator, on the mounting plate, beside the gen.
There was originally a plate on the gen.
The original Delco model number of the gen was 1100501.
If there is no plate, it could be a rebuilt gen someone put on in the past.
A pic would be helpful.
3 brushes, 1 ball bearing, and 1 bushing is all they usually need, if the electrical parts in it look in good condition, and it worked right.
Clean the inside well.
Clean the commutator, so it is shiny. Fine sandpaper can be used on it.
Below is a page from the 1955 Cub operator's manual, with a pic of the hood off, showing the gen and voltage regulator. The 1951 Cub was originally the same.

Re: Generator
Check to see if the brush holders and the brush springs are in place and working properly. The brush springs press the brushes against the commutator.torchred89 wrote:Thanks I sent it off to be rebuilt a year a go it worked for probably 2 hours total. I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Generator
I agree, you don't need a rebuild kit, you just need to find out the problem with the brush holders.

Re: Generator
Cleaned generator hooked jumper cable to battery and generator and it spun good. Brushes are good. Fired tractor up took cable off battery and tractor quit. I looked at the diagram Glen sent and it’s got a different voltage regulator. I watched video where it said if yo have a 3 brush generator you need a cut out regulator. Mine has 2relays and 4 terminals

Don't do that. It is dangerous and can damage components.

The video is wrong. Many Cubs has a 3 brush generator with a 2-relay regulator.
