Foam in tires

Postby midmo » Sun Jul 26, 2020 3:51 pm

Has anyone had their tires foamed filled on a cub. Had my share of flats this year.

I'm using tire sealant in tractor fronts, double or triple dose, and in farm trailer tires. None in tractor rear tires.

Thorns. 14 patches in one tube when it finally wouldn't hold air.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Foam tires are a rough ride, and they are hard on wheel bearings

I foamed my riding mower ...
it was expensive 14 years ago.
They are real heavy... (I could barely lift a 20" tire)
my wife did nothing but complain how bad the ride was.

Tires getting old and dry rot cracks or getting flats becomes easier. Sometimes putting an old tube inside the tire cut to fit the new tube helps prevent punctures? We did this on the dirtbikes.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

I think he had mentioned "Slime" in an earlier post.

I use this in my zero turn tires. Works really well but not sure how it would work in tires with tubes.

There are two types of sealant. One for tubeless and one for tubes. I use the one for tubes in ag machines.

Have used several different brands including "Slime. Basically what ever is available in the auto parts store. Brand doesn't appear to make any difference.
I have an excuse. CRS.

If you do foam fill one, I assume you would have to buy a new wheel when the tire wore out cause you wouldn't be able to get it off?

I put solid tires on a zero turn once, never again. It was a rough ride!

I've had several customers go with foam filled tires and have the bolt pattern brake right out of the wheel because there's nothing to take the shock. Best bet is double tubing like Bill said once briers become a problem. Larger front tires you can shop around a find liners to protect the tube. But even with that you still need to double tube to keep the liner itself from biting the tube.
