Can’t find leak

Postby john2189 » Thu May 28, 2020 9:29 am

What do you do when you have a tire that won’t hold air so you take the tube out, fill it with air, spray soap and water mix and can’t find a leak. I checked valve core before taking apart.

Fill a large container with water, bath tub works if you don't have a live stock tank.

No tube leak, valve core. Valve cores are my most frequent flat tire cause. I keep a couple dozen or so cores on hand.
I have an excuse. CRS.

If you are referring to a rear tire, do not overlook where the valve stem adapter screws into the tube. Sometimes A leak, especially around an existing patch or a seam may only leak under higher pressure. You can air up the tube so it is quite a bit larger than normal. If it is a front tube just get another one.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

I use a tire sealant such as Slime in front tire tubes. Thorns, no sealant, I would have to purchase 6 or 8 inner tubes a year..
I have an excuse. CRS.

Can’t find leak so I’ll put it back together with new valve core. If still goes down, then I’ll put slime in it.

If it were me, I don’t think I’d reinstall a known leaking tube. I’d just replace it.

Over inflate the tube. Don't install. Let set over night to see if it deflates.

Slime used to make a different sealer for tires with inner tubes versus tubeless tires. The standard Slime would dissolve the seams of an inner tube

Tube Looks the same as yesterday I think I’ll put it back together with a new core and see what happens.
