Hi,
Thanks for the pics of the Cub, it's good to see it.
This is sort of a small thing, but the choke rod is supposed to go slightly above the Touch Control tubes, so it doesn't rub on them. The engine vibration can wear the rod into the tubes if it touches them.
Below is a pic of how it fits. I think you might need to increase the bend in yours, behind the carburetor, to raise it up above the tubes. You probably have to remove the rod partly to bend it.

Re: Will not fire and run
Thanks Glenn, That's a good catch. Actually the choke rod is not attached (temporarily). It was easier to stand on that side of the cub and work the choke from the the left side while trying to start the tractor. I'll hook it back up when it starts and runs. Walter

And yes It quit 10 minutes later.
I have not been able to take a look at the points yet. Sun is suppose to shine all day tomorrow. I get photos of the points if weather permits. I also have a new condenser to replace the current condenser. Walter
Well heck , you could rent yourself out during a drought to make it rain...
Your points should be around .013. That's a lot tighter than the distributor type Cubs.
I don't recognize the spring going to your governor controlled carb linkage , but if it ran fine with it , might as well leave it for now.
Don't see the on/off switch wire to your magneto...
I'm only guessing you need a complete tune up due to worn ignition components.
The alternative is to adjust for wear after cleaning. IF you are getting good spark.
Your bolts to adjust the mag for timing look unmolested , so it's another guess that timing was not reset after servicing the plugs.
I'm not sure how important resistance on air flow is with the air cleaner system hooked up vs not hooked up.
Seems like anything I change changes something else though.
IF you get tuning up by replacing parts , save your old ones.
Sometimes a new part can be bad. And that gets confusing as all get out.
I am curious as to your condenser's health , and points and coil ect . But checking for spark after your points are cleaned and adjusted should be telling.
Points getting cruddy while setting is not unusual.
More so in your regular rain...
If very minor crud , I've dragged a clean (ish) dollar bill's edge through points to clean them. Seems to get funk from moisture off , and dust ect..
If you only see a clean edge on them on one side or a pitted or burnt center , that's not a good sign of them working any where near their potential.

Yeah, but I would have to drag that cub with me.
So today I took the cover off and dirty motor oil ran out of points compartment. I cleaned it out by compressed air, carburetor cleaner, compressed air again. I looks a lot better. I also removed the cover to the mag winding blew out with compressed air only. Wiped and polished contact points on the winding and mag cover with 1500 polishing cloth. Then wiped with paper towel.
Below are pictures for today.

Re: Will not fire and run
With all that engine oil in that compartment, points where in an oil bath. Think maybe that's the problem? I do.
So the plan is replace condenser and button it back up and give it a try. Unless someone sees something else. Thanks, Walter

Re: Will not fire and run
I would also check the coil for oil contamination. I suspect the oil came from a bad magneto ignition seal.

Re: Will not fire and run
Hi,
Below are pics of the governor gear oil seal. If the seal leaks, motor oil can get into the magneto.
The 1st pic is what it looks like when you remove the magneto.
The 2nd pic is with the governor removed.
The 3rd pic, from TM Tractor, shows where the seal runs, on the flat surface of the gear, on the right side in the pic.

Waif
The tractor came that way. I questioned its use at first but the tractor quits when removed. The only thing I can figure is the key way has some slop in it and the spring keeps that joint tight to one side so the governor works.

Yep, came with the tractor. Perfect size and water tight!

Someday in the future someone on here will get into an argument saying those ammo boxes must be original equipment Pretty sure dad put it on there but for as long as I can remember it's been there. And I learned to drive on this tractor.

Re: Will not fire and run
So, It rained again today in fact most of the day off and on. So no work on the cub. Weather forecast is for sun the next week.(7 days) I'll believe it when I see it. Any ways I need to paint a screen door frame tomorrow so it can be installed on the back door. That is if I want to continue to reside at my abode. Just kidding, but that job has been several months waiting. So it comes first. Hopefully I can relax in the sun Sunday afternoon and leisurely tinker with the cub. I'm hoping the oil on everything inside the points compartment is the problem. I cleaned every thing I could.
Next step is to recheck plug spark and see if there is a change.
Tool Box
Gary S.
I like a tool box with a lid to keep the rain out. These work well for the cub, fit nicely under seat. I have a tool box on one of my other cubs, an open top, square type approx. 6-8' tall although I don't use it. My Dad was a mechanic his entire career and he did not appreciate me not taking care of "Tools" period. I am still not allowed to leave tools out. He passed in 2013. So I really like this style but I think it needs some red paint. It's on the list.
