Air Intake Tube
I'm rebuilding an early Cub that is missing the air inlet tube between the air cleaner and the carburetor. The carburetor is not the standard 3/4" IH updraft unit but has a larger body. The OD of the carburetor inlet measures about 1-5/8" in diameter. The outlet on the air cleaner measures 1-1/4" in diameter. I assume the tube between the two also measures 1-1/4" in diameter. Any suggestions on connecting the air cleaner to the carburetor either by purchasing a new tube or with a hose of some sort? If I buy a new tube from TM how do I make the transition from the 1-1/4" tube to the 1-5/8" carburetor?

Re: Air Intake Tube
I just measured a Zenith and the OD of the intake is 1 5/8". TM sells the rubber hose that flares at the carb end. That might work unless your carb has something different about it. What brand is it?

Re: Air Intake Tube
How about going to an good auto parts store with the carb and aircleaner in hand and ask if you can dig through their radiator hoses and see if one fits? The one at TM looks good but it's 38 bucks! You only need a piece between the tube and the carb. When we bought the loboy it already had a zenith on it,some how they found a short section of hose that fits between the two. You need something along the line of this, youll have to google it won't let me link found it at Summit Racing does not say the sizes but you'll get the idea Spectra Premium Fuel Tank Filler Neck Hoses 434-FNH109 price at 13.00 is better too.

I assume it's a Zenith but I don't see a name on it unless it's on the back side. I looked all over the TM website but couldn't find the hose you mentioned. Do you have a link? Thanks!

That Spectra hose looks perfect, they just don't say what size it is. Yeah, I don't want to pay $38 for the hose. I might have to hit some auto parts stores and see what I can find. Thanks!

I found this. The price is just as scary. https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/CUBA ... XQEALw_wcB
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Air Intake Tube
Check HamiltonBob's price. Those are for the numbered LoBoys, so I'm not positive they will fit.

Re: Air Intake Tube
Someone posted a different fix which involved using the metal tube with the IH carb diameter hose attached to the tubing, then another larger hose completely over that hose, which fit the Zenith carb. Looked tidy... you really couldn't tell there were 2 hoses coupling the gap. Not perfect but it was cheap.
My 2 Zeniths DO have TM's hose on them.

Re: Air Intake Tube
if you have the metal tube with the stock IH carb slip another piece of a lower radiator hose over the original hose, it makes a perfect adapter from that hose to the zenith carb

Re: Air Intake Tube
Ricky, you may be able to go to an auto parts store and search there radiator hoses. I've done this for things that need to be necked down and cut the length to fit. It blows the peoples mind when you want to search their stock and not have them look it up on the computer though!

Re: Air Intake Tube
If you have an early cub may be considering getting an IH carb and using the standard tube. I think the early cubs do not run as well on the zeniths but I am not as familiar with the zeniths do I do not know if they are in as good a shape as my IH carbs.
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!
