Re: Introduction forum?
It could be many things. One common problem is a clogged main jet. Remove and clean with a small wire. Also check for good fuel flow by removing bottom plug on carb. It should flow steady and not dribble.

Welcome
If you could be a little more specific about what it is and is not doing, we might be able to narrow it down for you.
Are you getting spark? Is it coughing at all and just not catching?
This site can give you all the answers and more, but we need a bit more info
Again Welcome
Hutch

Why is there never enough time to do the job right, but always enough time to do it over.

Re: Introduction forum?
It is a 54 farmall cub..It acts like it wants to crank but it never does.. I've cleaned the carburetor, it has good fuel flow..I've changed spark plugs..put on a new coil, and it still wont crank up..

Re: Introduction forum?
Hi,
If the ignition points haven't been replaced or filed lately, they might be the problem.
They get old and burned from use. They can also corrode sitting, then power won't go through them.
Below are pages for the Battery Ignition unit, showing the points, condenser, and the point gap.

If the Cub has a magneto, info for them and the Battery Ignition unit is in the Cub operator's manual.
TM Tractor has new points and condenser, below is the listing, you can look at the pics.

Re: Introduction forum?
I replaced the spark plugs right when it quit working. I was checking the wires the other day and saw that the end of one was broke off at the distributor cap. so I am going to buy new tires and a new distributor cap.. could that be the problem?

Re: Introduction forum?
Tires or wires? I assume you mean wires? Make sure they are copper core wires. Report back when you’ve installed the new parts. Make sure you reinstall the wires in the correct order. Do one at a time.

Re: Introduction forum?
I have a similar problem on one of my tractors, but I have several questions about what yours is doing or not doing. I'm trying to learn too. When you say "will not crank up" does that mean as I would say "run" or "pop" ( 1 cylinder fired and no more) or does it mean your engine will not turn over any more? I know that an engine needs three things, Air, Spark and fuel. On mine it is sucking air into the carb. I put my hand over the inlet side of the carb. I also put pressurize air into carb. thru air inlet side and with the carb. off the tractor fuel line attached it sprayed out the intake side, the top with the flange.. I have a " spark plug tester" all it will tell me is that there is a spark of some kind not the quality of the spark. It still won't start and and run. Just a pop every now and then.
I apologize for borrowing your thread. I'm going to start my own thread.
