Trans part needed

Postby Ken (48 Cub) » Thu Apr 09, 2020 2:44 pm

I need a new Trans input shaft bearing lock ring. Would a snap ring work? What size do I need?

All I need is the lock ring...I found the bearing for $17 here locally.

Thanks to TM Tractor for the image.

A small snap ring is what most places supply with the shaft kits. I just got one today from Hamilton Bob for my 154 but the input bearing and that part of the shaft are the same as a standard cub.

If Ron can come up with the dimensions, McMaster-Carr may have what you need.

I looked there and most come in packages of 25, 50, or 100. I would check an auto parts store once you have dimensions, or online.

Cub transmission input shaft bearing retainer.

Ken
Here is a picture of the cub 154 shaft and snap ring supplied by Hamilton Bob (on the right). Along side is the SR-1 1" snap ring from the Harbor Freight assortment. Although parts of the OD are just a bit bigger, I tried it on the shaft and I would not be afraid to use it provided it clears the seal lip in the retainer.

I have 10 of these and would be happy to slip one in the mail to you if you can't source one locally but I think either HF or a good hardware store will have this.

Stay safe and well
Ron

I looked up the part number for the ring you need, which I believe it #351 539 R1
I happen to have a snap ring that is for the PTO bearing, #369 875 R1, that I don't need. Problem is, I have no dimensions for either, so I don't know if it would fit. If you find out this would work, you are welcome to it.

If the part numbers are different then the odds are good it won't fit. If two parts are the same then the part numbers would be the same.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Here is a listing on Amazon for retaining rings from Hamiltonbobs. It states in the description "Replaces Part Numbers: 351539R1, 369875R1"
If that is accurate than Dale's should work.

Thanks everyone...a 1" snap ring from Rural King worked just fine. ID measures approximately 13/16". That's as close as I can get. Tractor is back together and running.
