Thread size of oil drain plug for 1948Cub

Postby tomcough » Sat Feb 29, 2020 11:09 am

What is the thread size for the older size drain plug. The current plug appears to be cross threaded. I was going buy a tap to chase the threads while I have the pan off. Is it 1/2 in NPT?

Thanks in advance

I have had mine out and never really looked at the size, but if you are dealing with cross-thread, not sure tap will help much. Worth a try but use caution! I have one that someone drilled and taped the next size plug. may not be the best idea but it works. just something to consider if all else fails.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

the square plug is 1/2" pipe thread was used in 48
the later pan used a hex head plug 7/8-18 thread
the late pan had a reinforcement around the gasket holes to help with warping
