In support of having TWO cups of coffee!

Postby radioguy41 » Mon Feb 03, 2020 5:09 pm

I did something this morning I swore I would never do, I ran out of gas,,,, with the Cub.

I figured I had enough to get it up the hill to the garage forgetting that the outlet is at the front of the tank so , of course, when I went up the hill the gas ran to the rear of the tank and, putt, putt, gasp, there we sat half way up. OK, no problem, I'll just get a can from the garage and put in a couple of gallons. Uh, this can is empty,, uh so is this one. What the? All 3 are empty!? Long story short, I had to go to the house, change clothes, drive to town, get gas, drive back, put some in the Cub and purr, purr, purr, off we went. Brother when it rains it pours.
New resolution, no worky on the Cub before the 2nd cup of coffee! :tractor:

I thought the outlet was near the rear of the tank. I have an extended filter on my sediment bowl which causes loss of fuel with about a 1/2 gallon left in the tank.

I’ve got a hill that catches me too.
Next time that happens coast back down till your on the level to turn around. If you have to pull the choke to help fire and turn around then go up backwards so what’s left in the tank runs to the outlet.

:tractor: Many times when Roger and I were teenagers we had to turn the cub around on the hill below our farm and back up the hill, because of running out of gas. After all gasoline was 25 cents a gal

There are two kinds of tractor operators. Those that have run out of fuel and those that will. :D

I have two worse cases,

About 2 years ago my sister wanted to do some of the tractor games at a local show, she wanted to do the slow race with here O-S4, but she wouldn't go out there by herself so I had to go. I took one of my cubs I think it was my 55 lo-boy. I got to the track and it died and wouldn't start, I ran out of gas           It was basically as static item in our display and when I loaded it up on the trailer I did't give it much thought on how much gas was in it. Luckily I had a can of gas in our display area not but 50 yards away. But oh man how embarrassing.

The other one is less embarrassing, We owned at on time a 450 LP that we baled hay with. I liked that tractor, but dad, more than once, miss-guessed how far we could go on what percentage was left in the tank. Well you all can about guess what happened, :headbang , for those who might not know, you can't carry 5 gallon of LP in a bucket. We had this hose and you get a 20 pound bottle, and wouldn't ya know the grill bottle was empty, so go to town fill bottle drive down the waterway, hook it up and drive the tractor out the farm where the big tank is. You have to hold the 20 lb tank upside-down on top of the tractor tank while driving to get to the farm about 3 miles away.

I've ran out of gas mowing our yard a couple times. The bad part is my wife and I own a gas station beside our house

At least if you forget to turn the fuel ON, you don't get very far away! But I bet the majority of owners have done THAT more than once!

Yeah, a couple of years ago I went to a show, parked, dropped the ramp, fired up the Cub, backed off the trailer, started to turn the Cub around and it quit. The wife said, "What's wrong?" I said "Dunno" and then a lightbulb lit up. Uh oh, didn't turn the gas on!
