Clutch Stuck

Postby JonBama » Mon Jan 20, 2020 6:25 pm

I recently purchased a 1953 Cub that runs, but the clutch is stuck from sitting 3-4 years. The clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing was replaced appropriately 6-8 years ago. Previous owner used the tractor frequently before parking due to health issues. Is there anything I could try doing before having to split this tractor?

Welcome! I had this problem last year and ended up having to split the tractor and replace the clutch disk.

Hopefully yours won’t be so uncooperative. Just remember, it’s not impossible to fix!

Does the tractor start? If so and you have a lot of room and you think you can manage it - try to start it in gear and drive it.

Ride the breaks while pushing in and popping the clutch - all of the things you are not supposed to with a clutch.

I did that with a 130 that had a frozen clutch from sitting about 1-2 year and it freed it up.

Had that with a Ford tractor- blocked the clutch pedal down and after a few weeks it released on it’s own!
