Yes it is 5/8 on the '48 model blade. I know because that's what l have, with the original square headed bolt. It's been working fine for the 60 yrs we've had it.

At work we buy a lot of fasteners from Fastenal. P/N 15336 is costing me $8.00 plus minimum order charge to bring it in (not stocked at our branch) and MA Sales Tax, so $13.04 when all is said and done. No nut or washer with it.

If you see any utility line workers (phone or power), you might just ask them for a bolt, most would be more than happy to give you one. it's a common one we use in pole line construction, even has the square head and bolt

Couldn't even tell you how many I tossed in dumpster (probably thousands) after doing transfers over the years, since we didn't reuse hardware, even if it was just recently put in.

I plan on building a smaller shed to store firewood, using either pressure treated 6X6's or recycled telephone poles for the upright posts. So I have been keeping an eye out for galvanized hardware on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. Ran across an ad for some bolts, said they were 3/4", mostly a foot long, some longer. I figured they would work for what I had planned, especially for $20. They appeared to be salvaged from telephone poles. Well, the bulk (14, they are double stacked on the right in the picture) were 5/8"-12", little did I know I was buying a lifetime supply of grader blade bolts!

Those bolts are extremely handy, I've used recycled ones for building retaining walls (pre drill with small hole and use bolt as a spike) beefing up decks and what ever projects I can come up with, the 3/4 we only really used for older lead or extremely large cables, the 5/8 are the most common ones these days and the nuts and bolts work great with the cub.
