used 9.5x24 turfs onto 7-24 rims

Postby Greg_B » Thu Oct 31, 2019 5:56 pm

Anyone have success trying this and getting beads to seat?

Got a set of used good tread, no sidewall checking tires on other rims.

I will buy new rims so I can swap out the ags and leave the center sections on the axle if it is possible to mount without problems.

thoughts?

Hi,
The 7 x 24" rim was the widest that IH offered on the Cub. The 1965 Cub owner's manual says that the 8.3 and 9.5 x 24 " tires both work on the 7" wide rim.
This manual was made after the newer tire sizes came out. The 8 x 24" and 9 x 24 " tire sizes were the older sizes.

Below is the page from the owner's manual.

This page below from the manual shows the rear wheel spacings.
The 44" spacing gives the Cub a little more width than the narrowest setting, and probably a little more stability. The 44" setting is as wide as it can go with the center discs turned in.
The right rear wheel is shown in the pic. The 44" setting is above the tire outline. :)

If you have an adjustable width front axle, it can be set to match the rear wheel spacing.
Sometimes the front axle tubes get rusted, and are hard to widen.

I have that setup but I had them mounted.

Sounds like the Cub will be getting new wheels, and the used turfs for Christmas this year.

Just want to minimize the ags and the weight of the splitter from leaving deep marks.
