I'm looking at this disc tonight that popped up for sale just down the road from my house. I don't have any experience with the 23-A. Can anybody tell me what to look for regarding condition/issues? They are asking $400. Reasonable?
It looks to be in great shape. I don’t see anything bent or broken. Rust looks minimal, ie, you should be able to get a wrench solidly on any of those square nuts. Discs look solid and hardly used. Check the bearings. I do agree the price is on the high side. I’d be happier more in the neighborhood of $300 +/-.
Check wear and condition of blades and bearing, any welds. If possible, use it to see how it cuts. These are very nice little disks, but 400 is really on the high side. Good luck.
It’s in good shape from the looks of it. Agree on checking the bearings. Also check that the grease ports are all there. They are not just a simple case of replacing an alemite. I don’t know prices in your area, but the fact that blades are in really good shape counts for a lot. They are expensive to buy as a set. See if he will take less, but I don’t think I’d let it go if he won’t. Unless of course they are plentiful in your area
Edit: forgot to mention, there has been a minor modification to the rear where you place any weights. They added couple straps on each side.
