Next problem!

Postby Dusty B » Tue Oct 15, 2019 7:01 pm

Pretty sure a valve keeper went down into the pan!! Recommendations?? Pull the pan to retrieve it?? leave it and just get a replacement?? Any chance it would cause complications further down the road?? Trying to get this back together before my knee surgery the 6th of Nov.! It has been a slow process (procrastination has been a major factor).. Source for replacement keeper ?? Dusty B :help:

Hi,
You could try using a flexible magnet through the oil fill tube, and if you don't find the keeper from there, you could drain the oil, and put the magnet in through the oil drain plug hole.

Below is a listing for a flexible magnet, if you don't have one. :)

Auto parts stores probably sell them also.

I would fish for it for a good while before I pulled the pan. They are available at Hamilton bob and I think steiners. I used a flex magnet with light and shown a flashlight down one side of the valve gallery while looking on the other.

Step two after removing the valve cover - place rage on the bottom of the valve gallery!

Drain the oil, use a strong magnet on the outside of the pan. You may be able to drag it in reach of the drain hole.

Home depot sells small rare earth magnets in the bolts isle that i put in behind the drain plug. It may end up there after a oil change or two.
