Squealing noise on left side of 1951 cub
Hello- I have a 1951 cub. I got it running after years of sitting. Has new generator belt because I thought that was the squealing noise. Both belts are new, I cleaned up pullies. Same squealing is there on left side down low. Touch control works perfect but box was near dry I think. Used an extension to listen and there seemed to be more noise from the top tube running between box and pump. Sorry so long, any thoughts?

Sounds like an issue in your hydraulic pump. Did you purge the air out of your touch-control after refilling? From what I understand, the pumps are pretty easy to rebuild.

Also, from some research I have done to diagnose a loud whine in my own touch control pump, it is possible that the screen in the main touch control unit is plugged and that the pump is cavitating as it starves for fluid. I think that is the case with mine.

Re: Squealing noise on left side of 1951 cub
Well thank you for the replies. This is my first attempt at forums.this whole thing got started by a squeal after I rebuilt carb. Looked at generator belt and it was coming apart. So off comes hood/tank, fan assembly, radiator and so on. Cleaned gunk off front of engine, new hose on top, clean radiator inside out, new juice, lots of other stuff. Put it all back together........ still squealing !!!Also touch control had maybe a pint in it, but worked perfect. I’m a half hour away from taking pump off and discovered it was a too thin gasket between carb and intake. !!!!!! Plugged it with my finger. Holy Joseph!,
Made another gasket and stacked them. Now it runs so well I may not sell it. It was a one owner when I got it a year ago and parked it in shed.
