Distributor

Put a distributor on a 49 today, it just barely fit. Real close to the oil filter housing. I know they modified the housing when they changed to 12 volt, but they had dist on 6 volt too. We’re they that close? My 72 has about 1.5 inches from the dist cap and housing

Just changed one out on a 1950 cub for a friend. Didn’t measure, but they are pretty close. Plug wires rest against the filter housing

Hi,
Yes, they put many Battery Ignition units on 6 volt Cubs.
You have a Cub of each voltage there, I guess. You can look at the 2 oil filter housings, and see if there is any difference in the upper part of them.

Below is a pic of a 6 volt Cub with a Battery Ignition unit. The spark plug wires touch on the oil filter housing. :)

Glen, that’s about what mine looks like, the 72 looks like the housing is not as wide

Another thing, the 49 has a pointer, but no timing mark on the pulley

Did you make sure that the very small divet of a mark isn't just filled with rust/paint? Look very closely or scrap the rust/paint off the edge all the way around. There should be one, or usually 2, marks.

Yes I did scrape it, no marks, I wonder if it is an aftermarket pulley?

I have it running, I need to install a switch yet, I have it hot wired for now. just curious why no marks

I have heard others report an aftermarket front pulley with no timing notch. I have not seen one first hand.

Just looked. At Steiner and theirs has the timing marks, only listed for the Cubs. The one a jensales I didn’t see one and the didn’t say it had one in its description, they had bailer , power units and the cubs listed that it fits. maybe the bailers and power units didn’t have the marks.

If so, maybe my motor came from power unit or bailer.
