On a one wire 12 mini alternator the heavy wire that comes from the amp meter goes to the alternator? where does the other heavy wire that comes from the dash go?

If your talking about the other wire on the amp gauge it goes to the battery.

More specifically, it goes to the battery cable terminal on the starter.Shane N. wrote:If your talking about the other wire on the amp gauge it goes to the battery.

Sorry bad description on my part, the other wire I meant is coming off the cutout regulator and is bright green ending at the on/off switch so if the cutout is being removed what is left to do with that wire .

Check out the wiring diagram in this thread. You may can just remove that wire.

Re: One wire 12 mini alternator ?
I was just thinking about getting a 10-si 105 amp alternator for my fcub. Plus a larger amp 12 v battery deep cycle. I’m thinking about those plug in jumper cables. Would be handy. Plus I put in those 12 v runway lights for headlights.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Re: One wire 12 mini alternator ?
Deep Cycle batteries are not great for starting an engine. They are designed to supply a steady current load for long periods of time. They last a very long time if they are run down (to around 20%) and then recharged fully (to 99%). These batteries are not built to supply high amperage for short periods of time.
Please pick up a starting battery. If you would like to use a higher CCA battery, then that would be fine. I honestly have not had a no-start occur with the 22NF battery in my 184. I do use a battery tender during the winter. With the alternator on the 184 it runs the lights and a tow-behind sprayer just fine.

Re: One wire 12 mini alternator ?
For a minute there I was thinking that it's a Cub, it doesn't require much starting current unless the starter is in VERY bad condition. A deep cycle battery would be just fine.
Then I realized you were looking to use your Cub as self-propelled booster pack. Presumably for starting cars and other tractors which have high current demands during starting.
Definitely, you want a starting battery. A quality Group 31 has around 1000CCA which is about as good as you're going to get in a normal sized battery.
