What seat position is this?

Postby MikeEyre74 » Thu Aug 01, 2019 11:32 am

Can anyone tell by the looks of this if this is the shorter or longer reach position without taking the tool box off? The bolt is a bit stuck and I don’t wanna work for nothing if it’s already back in the rearward position...

Hi,
The seat post is in the rear position. When it's in the front position, there is hardly any space between the right side extension and the seat post, at the bottom area of the post.
For your safety, I would remove the tool box, and look at the 2 bolts that hold the seat post on the housing, and look at the amount of rust there, and the base.
Real injuries can happen if the seat post or base or bolts get too rusted, and the seat post breaks off from the housing, with a person in the seat.

Try soaking the tool box bolt for a few days with penetrating oil, and use a 6 sided socket on it. :)

Yup, it really gets your attention when you are mowing along and realize the steering wheel is getting farther away. I had it happen many years ago.

you are part of the problem!!!

Glen and John are right.

A little 50/50 acetone and AFT over a few days ought to loosen that bolt.

best penetrant there is. so many mechanical engineers have done "studies" on it. hard to find a squirt bottle to hold it thought. You may have a plastic bottle that says HDPE on it, but the pump components will soon freeze up because they're not high density... quick shake and a squirt and it's out. second place is Kroil... love the stuff

If your worried about plastic melting from the acetone you can go old school with it.
I keep a can like this filled with marvel mystery oil for my air tools.

It’s the earliest example of the K.I.S.S. Theory.

Man, it’s getting nearly impossible to find a photo on the web that will be jpg so you can borrow it for a post.

That’s what I keep mine in, a metal oil can just like that.

The plastic spray bottles I get at home depot seem to work. I have the 50/50 solution in it of months at a time without a problem.
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!
