1953 Fuel bowl issues

Postby 57j2olds » Tue Jul 30, 2019 8:35 pm

So I found out if I don’t shut my fuel valve off it leaks almost instantly. Just doesn’t seem normal to me. Can you guys tell me where I can get a new fuel bowl at?

Try tightening the jam nut on the valve first. It may be loose.
Then if no luck try TM at the bottom of the page.

Is it leaking at the valve or at the carb?

The packing around the valve is not compacted enough. You should be able to tighten it down to the point it stops. Do not tighten further as the valve needs to still turn with finger pressure. Hope this helps.

Leaking at the valve stem or at the bowl? If at the bowl, a gasket may fix it, but not if the housing is warped. When you open it, do you open it all the way? Some valves have a back seating stem that will leak if partly open.

It’s leaking at the valve.

OK. In that case, it is leaking at the packing as Nelson 634 said. Here is a how-to on repacking and otherwise repairing the strainer assembly, which may work depending on the overall condition of yours.

Your preference is probably to just buy a new one.
