Got the new cub home!
Well got the new cub home this morning with the help of a friend . She's really not in that bad of shape, minus the missing grill, doglegs and headlights.. the fast hitch implements are in ok shape, the York rake needs some replacement times, push blade is a little worn, the fast hitch grader seems to be ok, the carry all is solid and the flail mower is going to need some new knives
Now the fun begins... New front tires will be here today, hood is coming off... She turns over nice, going to need carb rebuild for sure.. first thing I'd like to do is check compression... Then start pouring sea foam down all the spark plug holes for a few days... It did an amazing job on my 1st cub, cleaning and freeing everything up. While that is doing the soaking I'll go down the "first bring home list".... Can't believe how exciting I am to dive into this.... Wish me luck

Re: Got the new cub home!
So far everything looks good, I wonder how this cub ran last time they used her.... Every spark plug was loose by at least a half turn... Guess last time they tuned her, they forgot to tighten them.. But for being old plugs they look pretty good, inside by the valves looks great from what I can see

the last one I purchased has something very wrong in the right side rear final drive. but the engine runs like a swiss watch! I plan to split it and make bug eyes alive again

Re: Got the new cub home!
Have a question on the starter... It turns over fine, but was missing the band (have a replacement), no idea how long it's been missing and was in the weather.... Is there anything I should be concerned about?

Re: Got the new cub home!
Hi,
Be sure the starter is dry inside before putting the band on.
I would put motor oil on the springs and parts that are rusty, to slow down the rust.
Look at the commutator, where the brushes run on, with a good light, it should be shiny and clean.
If it is dirty, you could take the starter apart and clean it with fine sandpaper. If you take it apart, oil the bushings with motor oil. The bushings might need replacing if worn.
The ends of the starter band go to the bottom of the starter.

Re: Got the new cub home!
As Glen suggested, make sure it's dry inside first, before putting any band on it. I'd suggest using a piece of oil-resistant, fiber gasket material, backed up by a sheetmetal band.

Re: Got the new cub home!
Check the spark plug wires. If they are graphite suppression wires you won't get the full spark from your stock points and coil. You need wires with real wire in them.

I kind of like the old car headlight. Going to look for one to match or put Cub headlights back on?

Kind of like it myself, I'll save that and down the road when I go restore her, maybe I'll utilize that as the rear light, unless I can find a matching one... For now I'm just going to put some cheap LED's on it while I'll be using it in Virginia.
Thank you everyone for info on the starter and wires

My dad put big chrome headlights on his 1958 Loboy that I recently got. I kind of like the way they look.
