I know you're supposed to use a certain type of plug wires with the Pertronix electric ignition. What do people use?

Although I've had no issues with metallic wire, Pertronix tech people will tell you suppression wire is required. On my Cubs, I use Pertronix spiral core suppression wire. I don't think they offer a plug wire kit for tractors but perhaps they have a universal 4 cyl. kit. I had scraps left over from other applications that I used to make up wire sets for my Cubs. Several companies offer spiral core wire so you might be able to Google it.

I run the plain old copper wires and the original (12v) coil with my pertronix. Pertronix also recommends opening up the spark plug gap. Because I stayed with the original coil and wires, I left my plugs gapped at the original specification.
I suppose if you replace the coil with a hotter (high performance) coil (as recommended by pertronix), you may need to tame it down with suppression wires.

I called Pertronicx about this a year or two ago. I was told for the model used for the cub standard wire is ok. The more advance kits need the suppression wire. I have to say I was not overly confident that the tech understood the question.

I think it is one of the subjects that we are on our own to resolve and may not resolve definitely. I have 12-volt cubs running stand wires doing fine. I have one that I ended up switching back to points because I could not find the problem but could not say it was the wires.

Copper wires for the last 10 years and 450 hours. Opened the plugs an extra .010". All has been great since.

Mine is about 10 years old too. Same metallic core wires, plugs, rotor and cap. Gapped standard.

I have two 6V cubs and a 12V one. They all have Pertronix with copper core wires and the original coils. Plugs gapped as per spec .023” off the top of my head. Love them. Quick starts, and never foul a plug and get much longer plug life. Hope this helps
