Tear Drop Lights

Postby Gary Puckett » Wed May 08, 2019 6:38 pm

I am replacing the plastic terminals in tear drop lights. The terminal is held in place with a spring clip. For those of you who have done this, does the clip push all the way forward, or just enough to hold the the terminal in place. It would seem to take a lot of pressure to fully seat the clip.

I have had both. Depends on condition of the spring clip and the terminal tolerances.

I push it in as far as I can but do not too hard. If the clip falls out there is little risk. The clip says inside the light and the connection is loose. easy fix. More risk if you break something pushing it too hard.

The ground is through the mounts on the teardrops. Make sure you bare metal on the nuts, washers and mounting bracket to get continuity back to the hood. I also us a conductive grease on those bare surfaces. Make sure the little brass strip is in good shape.
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

Inairam,
Thanks for you response. That is a good point about the "easy fix." All the components are new and the spring clips are firm. I was thinking about relaxing it a bit with a hammer.
